Originally from Waukesha, I have called the Coulee Region home for the past 30 years. When I attended Winona State University (Elementary & Special Education), I fell in love with this area and never wanted to leave! My husband and I were married at Holy Trinity Catholic Church and live in La Crosse’s southside with our “puppy”, Button. In addition to teaching, I coach figure skating including the Coulee Region High School Figure Skating Team (affiliated with La Crosse Central) which has earned 4 statewide titles (2017-2020). Before Blessed Sacrament, I was a special education teacher for students in kindergarten through high school and a classroom teacher for grades 1-3. I feel honored to continue my teaching career here at Blessed Sacrament where I have the opportunity to share my Catholic faith and love of learning with students.

MY CLASSROOM

“Every child deserves a champion—an adult who will never give up on them, who understands the power of connection, and insists that they become the best that they can possibly be” (Rita Pierson).

In my classroom, we work on developing our growth mindset as I am child-center teacher who plans engaging and relevant lessons to challenge all learners. Students are expected to be "respectful and responsible as they act and speak from their calm peaceful heart".

Reading-Grades 3 & 4

Students are expected to read outside of school to grow their reading skills. The third and fourth-grade reading class follows the structured literacy approach that involves meeting every learner at their current level while still challenging them to grow. During class, students will participate in lessons and activities to develop their word recognition skills, vocabulary, comprehension, and fluency.

To assist with developing reading comprehension skills, we follow the Lucy Calkins Reading Workshop topics. When reading fiction students will develop their skills in identifying characters and character traits, identifying and explaining theme, plot, mood, and making connections, inferences, and predictions. In non-fiction, students will develop their skills and knowledge of text features and structures, fact vs opinion, author’s purpose, main idea/details, and summarizing.
